Fotoprinter, inktjet, kleurenprinter |

There are fewer sites available on the internet about photo printers than on cameras. See example Printerspot.com. On HowStuffWorks is how an inkjet works. The site of Neil Slade gives much information about color, and he has expressed a preference (for Canon ink jets and a loud style of his site). Funny to read his printer shoot-out page on which he prints from an HP, Canon and Epson photo printer displays (and lets you choose the printer itself is the best). Neil is very confident in the quality and the calibration of our monitor.

"To compare the images please take a picture of the chart with standard daylight illumination, transfer it on to your computer, and open it in photoshop. If a specific color space was chosen in the set up menu of the camera assign the color profile related to that set up other wise assign the sRGB color space. Change the image mode into Lab and select the complete image (CTRL-A) and copy it into your clipboard (CTRL-C). Open the Color Checker psd file and paste the image into the layer between the background and the reference triangles. Adjust the size using the transform/scale command from the Edit menu and adjust size and location of the image so that it fits behind the reference triangles". (van: Image Engineering )

GretagMacbeth SG (semi-gloss) kleurenkaart

& Sensor resolution
The combination of resolution and contrast affect the sharpness of the picture. The resolution depends on the quality and aperture setting of the lens and the sensor / film. The resolution is often measured using a black and white line pattern, with the number of lines per millimeter is still visible from each counted separately (Advanced: half-light is now increasingly modular transmission function, MTF, Applied; but this comes at hetezlfde down). The resolution increases by aperture, but with a small aperture to take the edge off again. With analog film camera (and a film with high resolution), this happened somewhere between f / 8 and 11. With digital cameras the aperture where the focus is again reduced (the aperture boundary) on the size of the sensor and the number of pixels on the sensor. The sensor is a digital camera determines the aperture range that can be used to really crisp pictures.

Test Card for sharpness of lens / camera
Stephen Westin has a vector file of the ISO 12233 test chart put on the net. This ISO is used to map the resolution of cameras to test, but the original card costs more than 75 euros. The file of Stephen is free, but try him again to get good print! On DPnow.com an article which describes where to look and what not to do. I is not been possible to make a good A3print of this file. Good luck!
A more modern variation is shown underneath, where a similar pattern is used, but in Red Green Blue. Also stands the test pattern in some places at an angle of 45 degrees because that because the structure of the sensor affects the resolution of a digital camera.
Do you seriously cameras or lenses tested a look at the site of Norman Koren .
Test Card for focusing
Sometimes you get messages on discussion groups opposed to a digital camera in combination with a specific lens not focusing in the right place (usually "back focus, the autofocus focuses behind the desired location). Such a problem can only be solved by the supplier, and is fortunately not very often. If you have doubts whether your camera is focusing in the right place, you can check it yourself using an article " Focus Testing by Bob Atkins. Print test card on your own printer, and follow his instructions. |

Scanner |
|
This page contains some personal experience with scanning slides and negatives. Who wants to know more about scanning, look first look at scantips.com. If the text on this site you like, but you prefer to read paper than a screen, you can a paper on this site.
Scanners
Who wants to know more about hardware, look first look at scantips.com. Visit james photography contest for an annual global scanner. Good test of scanning can be found at Photo-i.
Scratches & Noise
An important part of the scanning software component for removing dust and scratches. Most software uses a separate infrared scan of the surface of the slide or negative. Then the software corrects for scratches and dust on the negative. Basically this is very enjoyable, because you will be amazed how much dust and scratches on it (old) negatives and slides is. These scratches and dust removal in Photoshop can be very time consuming.
For very critical photographers may be interesting to scan a negative several times. The difference is so small that it makes no sense to show on this site. But if you're interested in this, you are a detail of a single scan and here a detail of a four-fold scan . These scans are made of a 400 ASA film (a live recording) using VueScan and a Nikon Coolscan IV scanner. I think the changes will be evident when I look at the details of 200% in Photoshop.
Vu eScan
Negatives are orange. Each scan program daarrvoor correct. The orange color is different, unfortunately, a movie, and therefore differs in principle by the correction film.
VueScan is an inexpensive program from Hamrick software with extended capabilities for scanning negatives. This program profiles are stored in hundreds of movies. As an illustration you see in the picture right the different types of Kodak Gold which to choose. Moreover, the color balance even further to record the type, such as landscape, portrait or night scene (see detail on the left). In nearly all cases sufficient levels as a setting for auto color balancing.
David F. Stein has written a few additional manuals that may be a good starting point for the scanning software to know:
I use a Nikon Coolscan IV scanner, and was surprised how many beautiful colors in my scans I could get by using VueScan instead of the Nikon Scan program (Nikon Scan). With VueScan do I ensure that less than 0.001% over-or underexposed pixels in the (16 bits) are scanning. The scans look than flat and ugly. But in Photoshop, I then contrast using Levels and Curves, and the end result looks better than the Nikon Scan. Although I have to add that the differences in many cases bad.
Below I see three pictures of a man in Varanasi. Left is the raw VueScan, the center worked VueScan, which is much more subtle than the Nikon scan (right). VueScan is applied to more than 300 scanners and is available starting at approximately $ 60. A similar but more expensive scanning program is Silverfast . Check the site for one of Ian Lyons Silverfast instruction.
Scanner Tests
There is not much more attention for scanners, but there are still a few places where your tests or reviews of scanners for di, or negatives, including tests of flatbed scanners, you can find:

Camera
On the internet you will find little difficulty with English language test ("reviews") of digital cameras, such sites Digital Camera Resource , Steve Digicams , Digital Photography Review , Imaging Resource , DigitalCameraInfo.com and Megapixel.net . On these sites you will find tests of major brands (Sony, Canon, Konica Minolta, Nikon) and they are all in English. Dutch tests find example Let'sGoDigital. com or Fotocentraal.nl . Fotocentraal.nl is a Dutch site testing / reviews of digital compact cameras, which besides the major brands of cameras also test the blocking or Benq encounter. Also e-zine Photo test, you can buy different magazines.

Calibratie |
|
|
When using negative film Fuji films that you bought this magnificent green color, or Kodak for saturated skin tones. The photographs that you had made colors that "more beautiful than the real thing."
In digital photography, each device (camera, scanner, monitor, printer), a color deviation, like any color film had its own deviation. And that is not always desirable, although the differences for many amateur photographers do not have to be disturbing. If you feel that you print a different color on your screen , or you feel that your digital camera, a color variation in certain colors, then it is time to put you in the calibration of your photo equipment to deepen . (Test your yourself to decide , "Am I color blind?" ) Does it bother you, read no further, and continue shooting. More and more, and ever cheaper products on the market for photographic equipment to accurately calibrate. Using a sensor, the color of a reference card compared to the colors as they are saved by your camera or scanner, or displayed by the monitor or printer. The calibration software then creates an (ICC) color profile for that specific device. Then the colors of all the devices you have calibrated getting better with Alkar match.
